Man remanded in prison custody over theft

A middle-aged man was last Friday remanded in prison custody by an Abuja Area court for allegedly stealing items from one Jcheme Austine.

The accused, Alex Ameh, of P W Kubwa was alleged to have committed the offence on September 29, an offence punishable under Section 287 of the Penal Code.

The prosecutor Musa Abdullahi, had earlier informed the court that the complainant one Austine reported to the police that on September 29, 2010, he accommodated the accused in his room whenever is leaving.

When the complainant returned back, he discov­ered that his phone valued at N20,000, generator valued at N 10,000 and home theater valued at N60,000 were missing from his room,” the prosecutor stated.

The accused pleaded not guilty and requested for bail which was objected to by the prosecutor.

Judge Lawal Manir remanded the accused in prison custody and adjourned the case to November 11 for hearing.
