The truth about foods and dieting

Recently we read a lot about “good” foods and “bad” foods, but the truth remains that there are no good or bad foods and no universally good or bad diets. We should not assume that most people want to be thin or that being thin is the perfect shape.

To some people foods rich in carbohydrates and fats are considered dangerous but then again, for those whose life style require much energy, they should feed more on foods rich in carbohydrates and fat! While for those who live sedentary lives the opposite is what is required, which in some cases may not be necessary.

The sad truth is that even after decades of research we cannot confidently say who should eat what and/ or when. Are 3 meals a day any healthier than 1? If one’s weight is normal, should one still consider fat as bad? What rations of fruit per day is recommended as adequate?

A presumed balanced diet should consist of a combination of the following:

  • A portion of either bread, cereals, potatoes, yams, etc
  • A portion of meat or fish
  • A portion of milk and dairy products
  • A portion of foods containing fats and sugars
  • A portion of fruits and vegetables.

Quantity is adjusted based on body types.

No matter what we eat, regular exercise is always recommended to keep the body in shape. This could range from walking around the house actively doing chores to spending 30 minutes to 2 hours of active time in a gym.
