Are you in the category of people who have the talent for writing but don’t seem to be making any headway? Perhaps you don’t even know where to start? How about some tidbits of practical advise to put you on the right track? Ready? Let’s go.
First things first. You have to decide what to write. Right? I once heard a wise man say “Write what you know ”. (I cant remember now if it was in a movie). Anyway, it makes sense, doesn’t it? So whether you’re a housewife juggling kids and chores, or a teenager going through ‘teen issues’ or you’ve experienced grief the point is you have firsthand(or secondhand) experience is some particular area. Let this point you in the direction of your niche.
Another man, equally wise said “The trick to writing is to write.” True. If you’re anything like me then time is a major issue when it comes to writing. If you’re really like me then “peace and quiet” is also sacred. So what do you do? Find a time to write. Take stock of your environment and see what works for you. Whether it’s waking up before everyone else, writing at night when everyone else is asleep, or stealing away to a quiet place during the fifteen minute break at work, whatever you do, just write!
Don’t bother thinking about publishing issues right now, that would be putting the cart before the horse, have publishable material first, then we’ll discuss that later. Till then, happy writing.
