BANKER ACCUSED OF FORGERY

A 28-year-old banker yesterday appeared before an Abuja Mag­istrate Court for allegedly forg­ing a customer’s signature and withdrawing N4, 000 from the account.

Awe Oluwaseun, a banker with Peace Micro Finance Bank, Utako, Abuja, was said to have committed the offence without the consent of the said customer sometime this month.

Police prosecutor, Simon Ibrahim, a sergeant, told the court that on October 13, one Romanus Osibe of Peace Micro Finance Bank reported to the police that the accused dishonestly withdrew money from the account of a cus­tomer.

“It was discovered that the accused forged the signature of a customer, Adama Benodette of Kuje, Abuja, and withdrew N4, 000 from it without the consent of the customer, “the prosecu­tor said.

According to the prosecutor, the offences the accused commit­ted are punishable under Sections 362 and 322 of the Penal Code.

The accused denied the allegation when the charges were read to him and was granted bail by Chief Magistrate Hafsat Soso in the sum of N50, 000 with two responsible sureties in like sum

She ruled that one of the sureties must be a civil servant, while both must reside within the court’s jurisdiction as well as swear to affidavit on the adjourned date.

The case was adjourned to November 18 for hearing
