Bizman charged for Cheating
The police in Abuja yesterday arraigned a 36-year-old business man before an Abuja Magistrate Court for alleged criminal breach of trust and cheating, offences punishable under Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
John Onowa Achede of FHA, lugbe, Abuja, was alleged to have received supplies of iron rods worth N516,000 and failed to pay for them.
The prosecutor told the court that on November 9, 2010, one Ogwu Adegbe reported to the police that on March 8, 2010, the accused deceived him to supply iron rods valued at N516,000 with intent to pay the following month and all efforts by the complainant to get either the money or rods back have so far failed.
He said the accused confessed to have received the iron rods during police investigations.
When the two count charge was read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty and sought for bail, which was not opposed by the prosecutor Magistrate Ann Akobi granted the accused bail in the sum of N300,000 with a surety in like sum, who must be a businessman or woman within the court’s jurisdiction.
