Labourer jailed for stealing Church’s Generator

AN Abuja Magistrate Court yesterday sentenced a 22-year-old labourer to five months imprisonment without fine option for stealing a generator set belonging to Divine Glory Ministries, Lugbe, Abuja.

Rabiu Aliyu of Pantaker, Lugbe, Abuja, was convicted for breaking into the church’s generator room and stealing a leister generator valued at N65,000.

Police prosecutor, Yilkudi Dungji, had earlier informed the court that on January 12, a member of the church, Ben Adamgbe, reported at Lugbe Police Station that the accused with one Salisu (now at large) stole the generator.

He said the accused was caught red handed with the generator as he was moving it out, while his accomplice escaped.

“The accused committed an  offence punishable under Sections 79,354 and 288 of the Penal Code and confessed to the crime during police investigations,” he added.

When the charges were read to the accused person, he pleaded guilty and begged the court to temper justice with mercy.

Magistrate Omolola  Olad-ipo convicted the accused and sentenced him to five months imprisonment   without option.
