A 32-Year-Old Bricklayer, Haruna Mainasara, of Lugbe Zone 7, Abuja, Was Yesterday arraigned before an Abuja Magistrate Court for allegedly stealing seven goats belonging to one Hauwa Abubakar.
He was arraigned for the offence of theft, punishable under Section 288 of the Penal Code.
Police Prosecutor, Yilkudi Dungji, had earlier told the court that on January 21, Hauwa reported to the police that in December 2010, seven of her goats valued at N55,000 were stolen, while two of the goats were found in possession of the accused on December 18, which he said belong to him.
He further stated in court that the accused could not give satisfactory account of how he came about the
goats.
When the charge was read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty, while the prosecutor asked the court to open the case for hearing. The prosecutor’s request was immediately granted, in which evidence was taken from the first prosecution witness.
Magistrate Ann Akobi granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with a surety in like sum, who must reside within the courts jurisdiction.
The case was adjourned to February 7 for hearing.
