Labourer jailed for stealing wheel barrows

A 20 year old laourer was yesterday sentenced to one month imprisonment by an Abuja Magistrate Court for stealing wheel barrows.

Mohammadu Mahadi of not fixed address was convicted for theft, an offence contrary to Section 287 of the Panel Code.

Prosecutor Udeh David told the court that on January 22nd , one Abdullazeez Mohammed and three others, all of Wuse Market, Abuja, reported at Wuse Police Station that the accused stole six wheel barrows valued at N30,000 from where they were parked at Wuse Market.

He said that the accused confessed to the crime durĀ­ing police investigations.

When the charge was read to the accused, he pleaded guilty, while the prosecutor asked for summary trial.

Magistrate Fatima Mallo sentenced the accused to one month imprisonment without fine option and also ruled that the accused should pay compensation of N30,000 to the nominal complainant.
