Civil servant accused of criminal misappropriation
A 31 -year-old civil servant yesterday appeared before an Abuja Magistrate Court for allegedly misappropriating money belonging to Albarka Youth Development Association, Mabushi village, Abuja.
Mohammed Mohammed of Wuse II, Abuja, a member of the said association, was said to have collected N34, 000 from the contributions made by the members of the association.
Police prosecutor, Alhassan Abdu, a sergeant, informed the court that on June 22, one Idris Black of Mabushi village reported to the police that the accused converted the money he collected from the association to his personal use.
The accused collected N34,000 from the association and dishonestly converted it to his personal use, while all efforts made to recover the money from him proved abortive,” the prosecutor said.
He stated further that during police investigations, the accused confessed to have committed the offence which is punishable under section 309 of the Penal Code.
The accused denied the allegation and applied for hail, a request that was granted by Magistrate Emmanuel lyunna in the sum of N50, 000 with a responsible surety in like sum.
The case was adjourned to November 2 for hearing.
