Applicant sentenced for public nuisance

A 21-year-old applicant, Fatai Isiaku, was yesterday sentenced to one month imprisonment by an Abuja Magistrate Court for constituting himself into a nuisance in the FCT.

Police prosecutor, David Udeh, had earlier informed the court that on October 11, the chairman and members of Canopy Market at Wuse Zone 3 reported at the Wuse police station that they found the accused wondering inside the market in a suspicious manner, adding that the accused could not give satisfactory account of himself when questioned.

When the content of the First Information Report (FIR) was read to the accused, he pleaded guilty and begged the court to temper justice with mercy.

The prosecutor urged the court to try the accused summarily under Section 157 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Magistrate Aminu Eri sentenced the accused to one month imprisonment or to pay N100 as fine.
