Fake Doctor bags 3 years jail term

A fake medical doctor, Olabisi Philips was yes­terday sentenced to three years imprisonment by an Abeokuta Chief Magistrates Court. It  was gathered that Philips, a 27 years old school certificate holder, has been practicing medicine for the past three years.

The accused, who was arrested by the State Security Service (SSS) in Ogun State, was found to have stolen a West Afri­can School Certificate belonging to one, Sherif Abiodun.

 

According to the pros­ecution officer, Peter Oke-rimodun, the accused was also found to have forged his Bachelors of Medicine degree and Bachelor of Surgery (MMBS) degree from the  University of Ilorin and University of Ibadan respectively.

 

It was also gathered that Philips forged the license of the Medical and Den­tal   Council   of Nigeria to practice and another provisional   registration by the same body with number MMBS 484 to work as a medical doctor.

 

The court further held that Philips stole a vehi­cle belonging to one Mrs. Abdulahi, who resides in Ilorin, Kwara State. Dur­ing   cross   examination, Philips told the court that he used the forged papers to  work at  Olarenwaju Hospital, Ilorin, Able God Hospital, Abeokuta, and Michael and Alice Hospital

 

Dur­ing   cross   examination, Philips told the court that he used the forged papers to  work  at  Olarenwaju Hospital, Ilorin, Able God Hospital, Abeokuta, and Michael and Alice Hos­pital, Kemta, Abeokuta, where he was receiving a salary of N 100,000.00 per month.

 

The prosecutor added that during a search at the accused residence, they discovered forged docu­ments, which included four copies of forged cer­tificates from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, all in his name.

 

The Magistrate, Akeem Adenariwo in his ruling, said the prosecutor was lenient with the charge adding that the charge should have been up to 50 based on the crimes

involved.

“This person needs no mercy. He must be ade­quately punished to serve as a deterrent to others, he said

 

He then sentenced Philips to three years  imprisonment with no option of fine.
