Farmer imprisoned for Stealing Fish
AN Abuja Magistrate Court yesterday sentenced a farmer to three weeks imprisonment for stealing fish from a pond belonging to one Kenchuwa Jude.
The accused, Jubrin Ajidole of Sauka village, Abuja, was convicted on a count charge of theft, an offence punishable under Section 288 of the Penal Code.
Prosecutor Yilkudi Dunja had earlier told the court that on November 29, Kenchuwa reported to the police that the previous day, the accused entered his fish pond and stole 25 fish valued at N21, 700.
He said the accused was caught with the fish and confessed to the crime during police investigations.
When the charge was read to the accused, he pleaded guilty and begged for forgiveness.
The prosecutor urged the court to try the accused summarily under Section 157 of the Criminal Procedure Code and Magistrate d the Njideka Duru sentenced him to three weeks imprisonment with a fine option of N5, 000.
