MAN JAILED FOR ROBBING BLIND MAN

A Maiduguri High Court yesterday sentenced one Modu Aji to three years imprisonment for robbing a blind man of N30, 000 and other valuables.

According to documents, the con­victed man and two other persons armed with dangerous weapon were said to have beaten up the blind man and dis­possessed him of his money and belong­ings at his home in Kareram village in Magumari Local Government Area of Borno State.

The villagers according to the docu­ment mobilized and traced the suspects, using their footprints. It was also gathered that the convicted man was arrested in the bush in possession of the stolen goods. The suspects confessed to the crime, the court document also showed.

The blind man’s son, Bulama Mustapha, who had earlier testified in court, said the suspects entered their house and starting beating his blind father and when he tried to intervene, he was also beaten up.

The accused were arraigned on a two count charge punishable under sections 97 and 298 of the Penal Code.

The judge, Justice Pindar Haruna Ngadda in her ruling, freed the alleged accomplices and sentenced Aji to three years imprisonment.
