Man jailed six months for causing hurt

AN Abuja Magistrate Court yester­day sentenced a middle-aged man to six months imprisonment for injuring one Lawrence Orawusi of Berger Camp Kubwa.

The accused, Oluwale Bello, was on October 13,2010, arraigned on two count charges of criminal force and causing hurt, offences punish­able under Sections 265 and 247 o) the Penal Code.

He pleaded guilty to the charges but the presiding Magistrate reserved the ruling and ordered that he should be remanded him in prison custody.

According to the police First Information Report (FIR), on May 26, 2010, the complainant petitioned the FCT commissioner of Police that on May 2, the accused stabbed him at his back and chest with a broken bottle, adding that he was admitted at Kubwa General Hospital for one week as a result of the injuries he sustained.

At the resumed hearing, the prosecutor, Joseph Onwu, told the court that the complainant spent N95.000 in the course of taken treatment at the Kubwa General Hospital

Magistrate Eisape Grace Adebayo sentenced the accused to six months imprisonment without an option of fine.

She also ordered the accused person to pay N95,000 as compensation to the Complaint.

The prosecutor, Francis Tanko, informed the court that on October 29, the complaint reported to the police that the accused of Wuse Zone 3, stole his Nokia C3 valued at N26,000 while he was looking for where to buy a recharge card.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and requested for bail which was not objected by the prosecutor.

Magistrate Fatima Malo granted the accused bail in the sum of N20, 000 with a sureties in like sum.
