Suspected Armed Robber was caught while attempting to steal
A suspected armed robber whose name could not be ascertained on Wednesday escaped being lynched by angry mobs after being caught while attempting to steal from one Sunday Akogwu of Kabayi Village Mararaba, Nasarawa State.
According to Sunday, the suspected robber sneaked into his house at about 6:30 am with a pistol while he was still lying in his bedroom.
“I heard a strange voice asking my daughter, ‘where is your mother’ so on hearing the strange voice, I rushed to her room to see what was happening but on sighting me, the robber took to his heels,” he said.
He said he started pursuing him and shouting, ‘thief, thief,’ adding that some people in the neighbourhood came out and rounded him up before the police came to take him to the station.
An eyewitness, who craved anonymity, said as soon as the suspect was rounded up by the mob, they pounced on him before a team of policemen on patrol came to rescue him and took him to the Mararaba Divisional Police station.
When our reporter visited the Mararaba Divisional Police station, the DPO was not available for comment but a police officer at the station confirmed the incident.
He said the suspect has been taken to hospital as a result of the beaten he received from the mob.
