Sexual Abuse drags a Man to five years imprisonment
A 40-year-old man, Sadiq Suleiman, has been sentenced to five years imprisonment by a Grade 1 Area Court at Madalla in Niger State for sexually defiling a 13-year-old and six other male minors through anal sex.
The man was convicted for committing offences punishable under Section 248 of the Penal Code.
Commenting on the case, Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Madalla Police Station, Deputy Superintendent Chimezie Alloys, said yesterday that the convict specialised in luring young boys into his room with paltry sums of money, as little as N30, in order to molest them sexually.
He said the convict met his Waterloo last Tuesday when policemen from Madalla division apprehended him at about 9pm in his residence, after a tip off from the community’s head.
According to him, the community’s head was informed of the unwholesome escapades of the convict by local vigilante groups monitoring the community.
The DPO stated further that during police interrogation, the convict confessed to the crime and told the police that he was once married in Sokoto and had a son before abandoning his wife and son about eight years ago to relocate to Madalla.
“After thorough investigations which found him guilty of the offence, we charged him to court yesterday (Monday), where he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to five years imprisonment with an option of N50, 000 fines,” the police officer said.
An official source at the Grade 1 Area Court Madalla, where the convict was tried yesterday, confirmed the DPO s statement.
The DPO warned parents to be wary of unscrupulous elements like the convict who take advantage of innocent children and lure them with stipends, adding that the police are committed to bringing such culprits to book.
