Student 24, arraigned over cheating
A student, Daniel Chime, 24, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Abuja Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged cheating, constituting public nuisance and possessing suspected stolen property.
The Police prosecutor, Inspector Abdullahi Adamu, told the court that one Danladi Tanko of Sheraton Hotel and Towers, Abuja, reported the accused at the Wuse Police Station on January 28 that he ate and drank assorted foods and drinks valued at N7,000 in the hotel and refused to pay the bills.
He said the accused tried to sneak out of the hotel before he was arrested by the police.
The prosecutor added that during police investigation, a Dell laptop was found in the possession of the accused which ownership he could not give satisfactory account of.
According to the prosecutor, the alleged charges contravened sections 322, 183 and 319 of the Penal Code.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and Chief Magistrate Aminu Eri granted him bail in the sum of N 10,000 with a reasonable surety, who must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
