Security guard charged with negligence
A Security Guard with Rockview Hotel, Maitama, Abuja, Olaniyi Daniel, was on Thursday, arraigned before an Abuja Chief Magistrates’ Court on a count charge of negligence.
Police prosecutor Emmanuel Adikwu told the court that Mr.Charles Nwadike of No. 15, Mongo Park, Asokoro, Abuja, reported the accused at the Maitama Police Station on January 30.
He said the accused, who manned the iron bar of Rock-view Hotel gate, lifted the bar up for the complainant to enter into the premises.
The prosecutor said that when the complainant was about to cross the iron bar, the accused negligently abandoned the bar, resulting in a damage to his (complainant’s) Hummer jeep.
He said the offence contravened Section 196 of the Penal Code, but the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Magistrate Hauwa Aliyu granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with a surety in like sum.
She ordered that the surety must be a civil servant of “any grade level and must reside within the court jurisdiction”.
