Students abduct girl to punish father
A 22-year old 100 level student of the Usman Danfodio University Sokoto, Hassana Yusuf, was abducted Tuesday in Minna by persons believed to be students of the Federal College of Education Kontagora, Niger State, who told family members on phone that the abduction of the girl, daughter of a lecturer and Public Relations Officer of the institution, was to reduce alleged excesses of her father.
Though police said she was abandoned by the abductors and picked up in Kano yesterday, the abductors alleged that her father was wicked to them and had allowed his highhandedness to facilitate the expulsion of innocent students, adding that the girl was not abducted for financial reasons but to sound a note of warning to the man to reduce his wickedness.
The kidnappers maintained able to laugh- that they would continue to abduct the lecturer’s children until he shows remorse for his acts of wickedness to students, adding that things may get worse unless he changes.
Corroborating the story, mother of the girl, Awanse Yusuf, said they threatened to further deal with the college PRO who is currently performing Hajj in Mecca, by kidnapping his children until he stops being wicked to his students.
Niger State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Richard Oguche, told newsmen in Minna yesterday that they have not been able to identify the kidnappers. He however said Hassana who was taken to Kano by her abductors was abandoned there, and was currently at the Bompai police station in Kano while arrangements were being made to bring her to Niger State. He said the girl was released two days after she was abducted.
