Teens arraigned over rape of 8-year-old

TWO teenagers were yesterday arraigned before a Maiduguri High Court for allegedly raping an 8-year-old girl.

The teenagers, according to court documents were said to have forced the girl out of her family house to an uncompleted building, where they raped her.

They are said to have com­mitted the offence on September 23rd 2009.

Court documents also showed that the mother of the victim, one Hajia Hadiza, in her statement to the police, said she met the teenagers with her daughter in an uncompleted building, where they raped her.

The victim in her statement to the police, said the suspects tied her hands and legs before raping her.

A witness, Abubakar Mala according to the court documents, told the police that he was on his way to get firewood from an uncompleted building, when the cry of the victim attracted him.

He added that he saw the teenagers on the girl.

The boys at yesterday’s sitting, denied raping the girl and the judge, Justice Pindar Haruna Ngadda adjourned the case to November 9, 2010.

    The teenagers should be disciplined.But investigations should also try to find out why they did the act.Researches show that, most people who sexually abuse others have been themselves victims of thesame act some time in their lives. It may not be the case with these two teenage sex offenders. If they are not disciplined, they will repeat the act to some one else later on in their lives.Even in marriage and then, it will be more embarrassing.
