Thief Killed a Cyclist and Snatches Motorcycle
A cyclist, Sunday Daniel, was on Tuesday night killed with a hammer by a man suspected to be a thief along Agyana road in Abaji Area Council.
The suspected thief went away with the motorcycle after killing the rider.
A witness said the incident happened at about 9:45 pm when the deceased, a commercial motorcycle operator picked a passenger to Agyana village, about seven kilometers away from Abaji town and on their way, the passenger strangled the cyclist, hit him with a hammer on his head and made away with his motorcycle.
“The thief hit the cyclist with a hammer on his head and dragged his body close to drainage by the road side, till the next day when the corpse was discovered,” he said.
He said police were alerted and that they came to pick the cyclist to the hospital.
Our reporter however gathered that the deceased who hailed from Pandagi Gbako village of the council, just bought the motorcycle on Monday, before he was attacked.
At Abaji police station, a senior police officer who confirmed the incident said the incident was reported on Wednesday morning.
“Immediately we received the information. We rushed to the scene and met the cyclist in the pool of his blood. We then took him to the hospital where he was confirmed dead and the relatives collected the corpse for burial.
He said investigation is still ongoing on the incident to arrest the culprit.
In another development, three persons were seriously injured on Wednesday evening in a multiple accident that occurred at Kwali secretariat junction, along the Abuja-Lokoja road.
Eyewitness said the accident happen around 4:15pm when a Mercedes truck with registration number SE 761 JME dangerously overtook another vehicle and smashed an unregistered Toyota Jeep while a Toyota Camry with registration number GD 831LND coming from behind rammed into the two vehicles and injured the three persons on the spot.
Yangoji unit commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Abdullahi Umar, attributed the accident to dangerous driving, saying that the three injured victims were taken to the Kwali General Hospital for treatment.
