THE Federal Road Safety Corps authorities in the Federal Capital Territory weekend said over four hundred people were arrested over the four hundred people use of cell phone while driving.
(The FCT Sector Commander Funmibi Olawoyin said in Abuja the ban on cell phone while driving including sending text messages Hasn’t been relaxed He said over 400 people were arrested for being on cell phone while driving in the last three weeks. Cell phone driving distracts the attentiveness of drivers and causes crashes which are otherwise avoidable.
He said FRSC officials on patrol will arrest and prosecute those found violating traffic laws including the ban on the usage of mobile phone while driving.
He also said the corps has observed with disappointment, the widespread sale of liquor in various motor parks and asked drivers and motor park unions, especially the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to control the sale of alcoholic beverages in motor parks so as to turn away drivers from drunk driving, He said drunk driving was among the major causes of road accidents and fatalities.
He also urged authorities of places were markets are located near roads to stop traders from doing business along the roads to avoid obstruction and accidents
