STAYING SECURE ON FACEBOOK.
Social networking websites encourage friends and acquaintances to stay in touch.
For so long i have been feeling so tight and uncomfortable with my privacy on facebook before i got my way out. i wouldn’t want you to have the same problems. so?
However, some people believe that facebook compromises personal privacy.
Also, computer virus writers have seized the opportunity to spread harmful viruses through this network.
Have you ever come across a celebrity you know on facebook and noticed his/her facebook profile arrangement and saw a difference but wandering why? It’s simple this is how it goes.
STEP 1: browse to www.facebook.com and login. Select friends, followed by everyone. Friends have access to more personal details on each other’s profiles than members do. Many believe that having a large number of friends denote a high social standing but believe me that isn’t the case. To be safe, examine each friend well and delete those that you do not know anything about by clicking the cross to the right of the friends’ name.
STEP 2: friends often send facebook application to one another. These are programs produced by facebook or other people to enable users share or view different things. Think carefully before accepting any application because most of them has hidden viruses and hacking codes. Also ensure to share minimum information on any application and invite only friends you are sure of their integrity.
STEP 3: Now click networks, a network is a group of people who come or live in the same town or area. Networks also exist for schools and some workplaces. By default members of the same network see full profiles which could lead to data misuse. If you are not so sure about a network you are in or about some of the members, scroll to the bottom of the network page and chose leave this network followed by a confirmation.
STEP 4: Click the privacy link in the top right corner. This shows your present privacy status on the site, please choose a suitable status and confirm. On this page, you can also block some people from viewing your information on your profile.
STEP 5: Click profile link and click on those you want to see your profile information, status update and also pictures and videos upload. Do the same for applications in your profile and click save.
STEP 6: Back in the main privacy settings page, select search. By default all Facebook users can search to find a profile. Under the heading ‘which facebook users can find me in search’ change everyone to only my friends. This prevents users coming across your profile by chance or spreading malicious programs.
Click save.
With these steps listed above you can have a happy facebooking without fears of hackers and viruses.
